John Granito Passed away on November 23, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, John Granito; and mother Genevieve "Beva" Granito, John was born on September 16, 1926 in Santa Fe, NM. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1942. After his discharge, he returned home to Santa Fe and married Mary Rita Gonzales. John was a life long member of the St. Francis Cathedral Parish and was an active member of the College of Santa Fe Alumni Association. He also belonged to the Santa Fe Fiesta Council. He was a caring husband, father and friend. John will be missed by all who knew him. He touched the lives of many by being compassionate, loving and understanding. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Granito; his children: John Granito III, Father Mark Granito, Paul Granito, Maria (Lou Tilmont); and granddaughter Rachel. He is also survived by his sister, Natalie Garcia; and Glynn, Nini, Andrea, Carla, Johnna, Jackie, Mona, Francesca, Mia and Tina. Also close family friends Stella Moya and Peaches Collins. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Christus St. Vincent's Hospital for their caring and compassion. Services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the St. Francis Basilica with a Visitation at 9:00 a.m.; Rosary at 9:30; Mass at 10:00 a.m. with the burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Lucas Garcia, Mario Rodriguez, Francisco Rodriguez, Paul Broadhead, Paul Andrews, and James Lyle. Honorary pallbearers are: Pancho Romero, Jerry Rael, Louie Rael, Pankey Rael, and his friends from the College of Santa Fe Alumni Association. Altar servers will be from Holy Child Parish Catholic School in Tijeras. We would also like to thank the staff from Holy Child Parish and Catholic School for their generosity.
