Obituary for WEST

Jim West, of Los Alamos, NM, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009 in Baytown, Texas, where he underwent a year long struggle with cancer. Jim was born in Springfield, MO. to Herbert and Opal West on February 20, 1934. Jim's parents and his wife Janet preceded him in death. Jim is survived by sisters: Valdareia and husband Bill Boatman of Kansas, Linda Sue and husband Wayne Kelley of Texas, and Cindy and husband Darryl McKee of Missouri; nine nieces; one nephew; 18 great-nieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and one great-great nephew. Jim worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the Pajarito Church of Christ, in White Rock, Jim was elected to the Los Alamos County Council and served as chairman, the position he held till health required him to resign. Jim managed the Los Alamos County fair rodeo for 13 years. Jim was a tireless worker for his community and state. Living and setting by example his faith in God and mankind, Jim was also known for his ability to be ready for a 3000-mile motorcycle trip in less than a 3-hour notice. He will be missed by his many friends and loved ones. Pallbears are: Ray Brewer, Ray Hastings, Wayne Kelley, Bud Schultz, Harry Majors, & Pat Santaniello. Honorary Pallbears: Wayne Lunsford, Roy White, Alan Carr, I.V. Johnson and Doyle Rottmayer. Services are scheduled for November 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Rock Baptist Church, J.B. Harrington, former minister of the Los Alamos Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Guaje Pines cemetery.
