Obituary for ROLLINS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday November 19, 2009

Ola Fae Rollins, 68, resident of Rio Rancho, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ronald Rollins; children, Dru Van Campenhout and husband, Adrian of Plymouth, MI, Leslie Hendricks and husband, Douglas of Anchorage, AK, Michael Rollins and wife, Lina of Albuquerque, NM, and Mary Harris of Rio Rancho; son-in-law, Gregory Harris of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Cara, Rachel, and Colin Van Campenhout, Dawson Grey and Michaela Hendricks, Fawn Vivar, Devin, and Adin Rollins, and Aleeha, Sidney, Cameron, and Jalen Harris; sisters, Gay LaVelle, and Rae Strosin both of Peters Creek, AK; and brother, Vernon Rice of Anchorage, AK. Fae's love of life and adventure carried her from Kentucky roots as a coal miner's daughter to becoming an entrepreneur, owning a hair salon with her husband, writing a column on beauty and style in her local newspaper in Ohio, to homesteading in a one room log cabin in Alaska to care for her mother. She loved the outdoors, gardening, and cooking. She treasured 20 years of hiking, fishing, and camping with her family in the Alaskan wilderness. One of her favorite memories was hiking the forty mile Resurrection Pass Trail in Alaska with her husband. She was a devoted wife and partner to her husband of 50 years and a truly wonderful mother and grandmother. She possessed beauty, grace, confidence and success, but the true definition of her spirit was measured by her kindness, compassion and living her faith in God daily. Her generosity was unbound. She was called "mom" by many other than her own four children. There was always an extra plate at the table or bed to sleep in for anyone in need. Her laughter, smile and joie de vivre will be missed by all who knew her. Panakhida will be held Thursday, November 19, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel. Friends may visit Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 20, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Orthodox Church, 10440 4th St. NW. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to be made to The All Saints Orthodox Church Building Fund.
