Obituary for URBANEK

Carrie V. Urbanek passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009. She was born Carrie Viola Warren in Clear Creek Township, Ellsworth County, Kansas. She graduated from high school in Ellsworth Kansas and went to work as a legal secretary two months before her graduation and was in service in Social Security and Internal Revenue Federal agencies, the Compton, California Police Department, and the Kansas State Banking Department until she retired. When she married Art Urbanek in 1931 she converted to the Catholic religion and they farmed in Kansas for many years. They celebrated more than 50 years together before his death in 1986. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1991 to be near family. She was a physically active person, receiving an acknowledgment for walking a hundred miles. She is survived by her two daughters Joan Browne of Albuquerque and Marjorie Leitner of Baldwin City, Kansas; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She has three surviving brothers, Bill Warren of Redding, California, Tom Warren of Portland, Oregon and Melvin Warren of Mt. Vernon, Washington. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella in Topeka, Kansas. After moving to Albuquerque she was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church for eighteen years and regularly contributed to many charitable organizations. She supported a seminarian in South America and bought a chalice for another young man when he became a priest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you contribute to Joy Junction Shelter, 4500 Second St. Albuquerque, New Mexico. On Monday, November 16, the Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. prior to the Memorial Mass being held at 5:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont St. NE. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka Kansas beside her husband. For specifics on the date of interment contact Brennan- Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka, Kansas.
