Pearl Borg, 96, went home to her Savior on Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Princeton Place Nursing Facility with her friends at her side. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and retired to Albuquerque in 1990 with three long-time lady friends. She is predeceased by her parents and Harold, her husband of 50+ years. Pearl was an avid musician, singing in her church choir and other choral groups. In 1946, she attended her first women's barber shop quartet competition. At the organizational meeting, Pearl was invited to become a member of the first Board of Directors of Sweet Adelines, Inc. She was later elected President, serving two terms. During her second term, the organization became International with the addition of Canadian Chapters. Pearl sang tenor in a championship quartet, the Tune Twisters. In the 1950's, she sang with the Happy Harmonizers, a popular International medalist quartet. She also directed three choruses through the years in the Chicago area. Pearl also served as editor of The Pitch Pipe, the official publication of the Sweet Adelines International, for over 16 years. Upon moving to Albuquerque, she transferred her membership to the Enchanted Mesa Show Chorus. Throughout her life, Pearl never wavered in her faith as an Anglican, serving in many capacities, as well as singing in choirs. Pearl is survived by her three dear friends, Martie Haden, Patricia Newell and Denise Benshish and her "puppies" Abby and Duke. Her signature was always "With a Song in My Heart." Now, "the song is ended, but the melody lingers on." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael and All Angels, 601 Montano Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
