Alexandra Decker, the former Alexandra Schmitt of Silver City, passed away November 1, 2009, in Concord, California, after a long illness. Known as Sandra or Sandy to her family and friends, she graduated from Western High School and the University of Arizona-Tucson with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. A long time resident of the Walnut Creek area of northern California, Sandra is survived by her daughters Linda Merriam of Pleasant Hill, California, and Janis Murphy of Carlsbad, California; grandchildren Sean Merriam and Kurt and Caitlin Murphy; sister Armena Franks of Tucson, Arizona; and brother Harrison H. Schmitt of Albuquerque. Sandra was preceded in her passing by her sister Paula; husband Bob Decker of Bisbee, Arizona; and father Harrison A. Schmitt of Mankato, Minnesota; and mother Ethel Hagan Schmitt of Bethel, Tennessee. The family requests that friends consider making contributions in Sandra's name to hospice care provided by the Gila Regional Medical Center Foundation.
