Obituary for WALTHERS VON ALTEN

William K. Walthers von Alten II, 88, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1969, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009. William was born May 16, 1921 the son of William Kearney and Annette Petersen Walthers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a machinist for many years and worked on Ultra Light Planes before he retired. He served in the United States Air force for 12 years as a 2nd Lt. and was an officer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 15 years; as a young man he attended St. Johns Military Academy; he was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge #2500 in Rio Rancho; and his greatest joy was inventing and tinkering with things in his garage. William was always a gentleman. He was preceded in death by two sons, Patrick and Frederick Walthers. William is survived by his wife of 66 years, Germaine Walthers of Rio Rancho; eight children, William Walthers III and wife Diane of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Walthers and wife Claudia of Las Vegas, NV, Annette Miller and husband David of Rio Rancho, NM, David Walthers and wife Lisa of Albuquerque, NM, Karl Walthers and wife Terrie of Texico, NM, Amy O'Brien and husband Scott of Clarkston, WA, Paul Walthers and wife Josie of Los Lunas, NM, and Lee Walthers von Alten of Shallotte, NC; 36 grandchildren; 21great grandchildren; and one sister, Peggy Hooper of West Allis, WI. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.lowed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.Friday, October 23, 2009 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho. Innichement will follow in the Floral Garden Mausoleum in Vista Verde Memorial Park with Military Honors being presented by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
