William Edgar Sailer (June 14, 1935 - October 12, 2009) William E. (Bill) Sailer passed away Monday, October 12, 2009, at Plains Regional Hospital in Clovis, NM. He was born June 14, 1935, in Paoli, Indiana to Earl Grant and Helen Pauline Sprinkle Sailer. He attended Bob Jones University and graduated from Indiana State University with a BS in Education, cum laude. He earned an MA from the University of New Mexico in Educational Administration and an Ed. D. from New Mexico State University in Educational Administration. His scholastic organization memberships included: Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Omega Pi, and Pi Gamma Mu. His career in Education included teaching at Paoli HS, Grants HS and Mayfield HS in Las Cruces. He served as Asst. Principal at Mayfield HS and Principal at Hatch HS, Hatch, NM. He served as a Professor at Sul Ross University, Asst. State Supervisor for Vocational Office Education for the NM Dept of Education, Vice President for Academic and Vocational Studies at New Mexico Technical Vocational School at El Rito, NM and Associate Provost for Instruction at NMSU Grants Branch, 1977 to 1986. He was the Provost at NMSU, Grants Branch from 1986 to his retirement in 1993. His Professional organizations included: College Representative to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, New Mexico Commission on Higher Education; New Mexico Association of Community, Junior and Technical Colleges; state board member of the National Council for Two Year Colleges of Four Year Universities. His community service included: Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Grants; officer on Cibola Arts Council, officer of Grants Chamber of Commerce, member of the Masonic Lodge and York Rite Shrine, Grants BPOE Lodge, and many other service groups. Bill Sailer's greatest achievements were his son and daughter, whom he raised to be upstanding and compassionate people. His daughter, Traci, is a nurse and fosters rescued animals. He loved her gentle heart. His son, Jason, is an accomplished artist and works with handicapped children in the APS special education program. He made his Dad proud. Bill enjoyed his grandson, Jacob and all of his step-grandchildren. Papaw, Papa Doc, Pops, they loved him. He was a loved and valued mentor to his step-sons, who learned how to parent from him. Bill also enjoyed going back to Paoli to visit his brother, Don, and his family and all of his old childhood haunts. Dr. Sailer was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Evangeline; and nephew Donovan L. Sailer. He is survived by his wife Karolyn K. Sailer; son Jason Earl Sailer and wife Bethe of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Traci Lee Sailer of Albuquerque; brother Donovan E. Sailer and wife Mary Kay, Paoli, Indiana; grandson Jacob William Sailer, of Albquerque, NM; and his former wife Mona L. Sailer, Paoli, Indiana. He is also survived by step-sons: Charles McEuen, Clayton, NM, Keith McEuen and wife Brittany of Grand Prairie, Texas; Step-grandchildren include: Zachary C. Maciejewski, Alexandra E.Maciejewski; Megan, Ian, Ellie, Lauren, and Mia McEuen. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in the Spring in Paoli, Indiana.
