Obituary for NICKOLSON

Diana L. Nickolson, 93, resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Thursday, October 15, 2009. She is survived by her son, Tom Nickolson of Albuquerque; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nickolson was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Nickolson; and son, Donald Nickolson. She was an active member of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Albuquerque for many years. Mrs. Nickolson was born to Greek immigrants, Thomas Chalamidas and Georgia Roi in Pawtucket, RI. She has brothers Louie, Roy, Peter, George and sister Helen, all deceased. The family later moved to Ambridge, PA where she met and married Leon Nickolson from the province of Eleia, Greece. In the fall of 1947, they moved to Albuquerque where they owned and operated many businesses including the well known Liberty Cafe on 1st street and Central. Mrs. Nickolson would especially like to express her love and appreciation to her nieces, Connie Chalamidas, Helen Chalamidas and Becky Chronis, whom she affectionally called the "Girls", and whose love for them was as if they were her own daughters and to Marilyn Cole whose kindness, care, love and affection was so deeply cherished and appreciated during the final years of her life. Trisagion will be held Sunday, October 18, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Services will be held Monday, October 19, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High St. SE. Pallbearers will be Nick Chronis, George Chronis, Christopher Chronis, Nick Bakas, Christopher Bakas, and Mark Bullock, with honorary pallbearer Tasso Chronis.
