Michelle Duesterhaus Tang, 31, of Herndon, Virginia, formerly of Albuquerque and Quincy, IL died Saturday October 10, 2009 in her home after a lengthy battle with leukemia. She was born on November 9, 1977, in Quincy, IL to Robert E. and Judy Peter Duesterhaus. On June 17, 2006, she married Jason David Tang in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Michelle was a 1996 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School where she was honored as the class Salutatorian. As a teenager she was active in 4-H and also showed horses at local shows. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2000 as well as her Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in December, 2001. She was employed at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as a Research Engineer from August, 2001 until March, 2008, when she left work due to her illness. She is survived by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Alan Duesterhaus (Laurie) of Ursa, IL, Brian Duesterhaus (Peggy) of Mendon, IL, Bruce Duesterhaus (Angela) of Fowler, IL; two sisters, Karen (Jim) Schuering of St. Louis, MO, Jane (Joe) Frazier of St. Charles, MO. She is survived by eleven nieces and nephews, Eric and Ethan Duesterhaus, Sarah, Matthew, and Nicole Duesterhaus, Steven, Kelly, and Kate Schuering, Justin Hollensteiner, Megan and Cole Duesterhaus; Michelle;s in-laws, Jack and Ruth Tang of Naperville, IL; and two brothers-in-law Alex (Jennifer) Tang of Chicago, IL and Brian Tang of Arlington, VA; she is survived by two step-nephews, Joey (Courtney) Frazier, and Nathan Frazier; and one great step-nephew, Zane Frazier. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Cyril Duesterhaus, Edith Duesterhaus Costigan, Paul and Ruth Peter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 9:30am at St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy, IL, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
