Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday October 09, 2009

Wilma Lee Paul passed away peacefully in Alpharetta, GA on October 4, 2009, at age 90. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Gordon W. Paul, of Alpharetta, GA, by one grandson, Scott Paul, of Alpharetta, GA, and by five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Paul was originally from Wheeling, West Virginia, being the second youngest of ten children of Elbert and Della Albus. She was raised on a farm close to Wheeling before the family moved to Wheeling proper when Mrs. Paul was a child. In 1943, while visiting Pittsburgh, she met her husband Gordon who was serving in the United States Army Air Corps in nearby Washington, PA. They were married six weeks later. Following the marriage, Gordon was transferred to San Francisco, where he and Wilma remained for the rest of the War. Following the birth of their first son and Gordon's discharge from the army in 1946, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. They moved to Alpharetta in 2003. Wilma was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and made the best banana cream pies ever. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlepoint and other crafts. She joined her family in camping and hiking, as well as traveling on vacations in the West and abroad. The twinkle in Willie's eyes will be missed. Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Dr. Gordon A. and Elaine Paul and Dr. Donald A. and Nadeen Paul; grandchildren Heidi Perry (Graham), Thaddeus Paul (Jane), and Garrett Paul; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Amelia Perry; and a sister, Eileen Schaefer. A memorial service was held at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Donations are welcome on behalf of the Morningside Presbyterian Church, 1411 N. Morningside Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30306, or to the Alzheimer's Association at http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp.
