Obituary for GARCIA

Estevan "Steve" B. Garcia, 62, a resident of Santa Fe, NM, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009. Steve was born on August 23, 1947 to Bernardino and Agnes (Lucero) Garcia of Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1965. While at Albuquerque High he was active in the band programs under the direction of Win Christian. Steve played lead alto saxophone in the AHS Showtime Band, the first high school band of its kind in the city. He attended St. Joseph's College (University of Albuquerque) as well as New Mexico State University where he completed a Bachelor's degree in Music. Upon graduation, he honorably served the US Army in two tours of Vietnam. He was awarded a Purple Heart and several other medals for his service. He was proud of his Vietnam Service, and for that it is his wish to be buried with his comrades in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Steve was a member of many local bands, specifically one that was well noted for jazz and showtune fare. He was a well respected, sought after goldsmith and award winning jeweler. Steve proudly showcased his beautiful creations at Ortega's On the Plaza in Santa Fe, NM. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by his father, Bernardino Garcia, and mother, Agnes Lucero Sanchez. He is survived by his siblings, Mannie Garcia and wife, Vicki, of MD, Leopoldo Maurice Garcia Sanchez, of Albuquerque, NM, Ramona Ann Garcia Blea and husband, Robert, of Albuquerque, NM, and Saralisa Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; very loyal friend, Paul Howes, of CA; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave NW, Albuquerque, with Fr. Richard McGowan, celebrant. Following the Mass of Christian Burial, Mr. Garcia will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Those who wish to express condolences may do so at www.danielsfuneral.com.
