Obituary for VIGIL

Anthony J. Vigil (Tony), 69, passed October 3, 2009. Anthony was born February 2, 1940 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Ernest and Margaret Vigil. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. Following his military service, he worked for the New Mexico State Highway Department and retired in 1985 from the Albuquerque Fire Department after 24+ years of Service. Anthony was a talented woodworker and carver who designed and handmade many cabinets, pieces of furniture and projects over the years, often giving away his work to friends and family. Tony also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's diverse sporting events. Tony is survived by Corrine, his loving wife of 49 years; son Tony Vigil and wife Mary Kaye; son, Robert Vigil and grandchildren, Zakary, Santana, Michael and Antoinette; daughter, Sylvia Vigil-Raines and husband Terry, all in the Albuquerque area. Also surviving are two sisters; Cecilia Burkheimer of La Puenta, California and Christy Mora and her husband Larry of Santa Fe; three brothers, Alfonso Vigil and his wife Erlinda of Santa Fe, George Vigil and wife Veronica of Chupadero, Leroy Vigil of Santa Fe; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends including many retired Albuquerque, New Mexico Fire Fighters and the Thursday Night Santero Group. Casket bearers will be Leroy Vigil, Alcario Otero, Roman Romero, Zack Romero, Sip Romero, Andy Romero and Arturo Loera. Honorary Casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Zak, Santana, Michael and Antionette Vigil and nephew Micah Shaw of Rockville, Maryland. Tony was a dedicated husband, dad, PaPa, brother and great friend and will be very much missed by everyone he knew and those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Albuquerque All Faith's Receiving Home or Ronald McDonald House. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church on the corner of 4th and Mildred Avenue on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church with the internment to follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors.
