Obituary for MONTENEGRO

Louis Belisario Montenegro, 90 years old passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 3, 2009, while surrounded by his loving family. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carmen Monetenegro; his daughters Rita Martinez, Mary Garley; his son, Robert Monetnegro; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Celestino Montenegro; his mother, Charlotte Leonard; and brothers, Daniel, Enrique and Ernest. Louis was born in Manhattan, NY on August 10, 1919. He graduated from the University of New Mexico. He worked as a Draftsman for the Soil Conservation, and retied from Civil Service at Kirtland AFB and Defense Nuclear Agency at Sandia Base after 27 years of service. Louis was the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend that anyone could every imagine having, so giving, loving and caring. Louis achieved many accomplishments in his lifetime. He was a great man of integrity who held honesty as his highest attribute. He had so much compassion for the people he surrounded himself with. Louis grew up in Chile and Argentina with his father and brothers for ten years before returning to the United States in 1939. He served our country as a S.Sgt. in the United States Army, during World War II in the territory of Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 and Okinawa Japan. Louis met his love of his life Carmen in 1951 and they married. Louis and Carmen lived and loved together in marriage for 57 years as friends and shared his wonderful sense of humor, common respect and sacrifice. After retiring, Louis served as President of American Federation Government Employees (AFGE) Locals 2346 and 2263 and later as National Representative of AFGE's 12th and 13th districts serving New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Louis had many interests but Science and Astronomy were most pronounced as well as his pursuit to find answers to mysteries of the cosmos as well as his quest for the meaning of life. Louis, like his father and brother Daniel loved to read and write stories as well as tell them. Louis will be great missed by his loving family and by those whose hearts he touched. Visitations will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be Thursday from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2532 Vermont NE, at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Military honors will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard of Santa Fe, NM. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, for the research of Lung Cancer, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
