Obituary for TINNIN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday October 04, 2009

Jamie Garrett Tinnin, 47, a resident of Albuquerque since 1980, died October 2, 2009. Jamie was born on March 15, 1962 in Ridgewood, New Jersey and graduated from Mahwah High School in 1980. She attended Brigham Young University and the University of New Mexico. She is survived by her loving husband Thomas P. Tinnin of Albuquerque; adoring children Megan Ashley Tinnin, Courtney Nicole Tinnin, and Robbie Garrett Tinnin all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters Leslie MacFarlane of Eden, Utah, Marcie Lemmon of Irvine, California, Beckie Desmet of Irvine California, six nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Mildred and Sherman J. Garrett and nephew Ryan Lemmon. Jamie dedicated most of her life to her husband and children. She was always front row at school plays, soccer games, basketball games, football games, whether it was home or on the road. In addition, she assisted her husband Tom in running Tinnin Enterprises. Somehow she still found the time to dedicate her efforts to numerous civic and charitable organizations. She co-chaired with her husband Tom, the Annual Cystic Fibrosis Celebrity Waiters Dinner for several years. She also chaired the 12th Annual Chocolate Fantasy event for the Albuquerque Museum of Natural History. She was active in the Albuquerque Junior League and co-chaired the Annual Holiday Ole event. She was a hostess extraordinaire; the welcome mat is always out at the Tinnin home. She and her husband Tom enjoyed having friends and family to their home on numerous occasions throughout the years. Many charitable fundraising events were hosted at their home and many of our state's and nation's leaders were graced by Jamie's hospitality. People were drawn to her wit and charm and became true lifelong friends. She will be deeply missed, but the memories of her will last us all of our lifetimes. The family extends their thanks to all of Jamie's friends who have supported her throughout her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research, 10501 Montgomery Blvd., NE, #300, Albuquerque, NM 87111-3875. Services are pending and will be held at The First Presbyterian Church at 215 Locust St. NE.
