Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday September 16, 2009

Kathryn Ruth Eckert, 75, of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009 in Denver, surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born on December 11, 1933 in Denver to the late Frank and Margaret Ann Jordan. It is fitting that Katie passed away in her hometown Denver, where she grew up with her four sisters and one brother. She was the second youngest and was known by her mother as, "all of my troubles"! She also met her loving husband of 53- years George Eckert in Denver while both were attending college: he at Regis and her at Saint Frncis. After getting married, they finished George's service in the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, NC and settled down in Albuquerque where George joined his sister Josephine to work at Eckert's Furniture on Central Avenue. As a homemaker, Katie raised her four children and was an avid skier and tennis player. She was also one of eight surviving founders of the Las Amapalas Albuquerque Garden Club. Katie was so full of life, but when she lost her husband, a short 16-months ago, she patiently waited for God to take her to him, and now she is with him in Heaven. Katie is survived by her four children, Marty Eckert of Albuquerque, John and Samantha Eckert of Placitas, Amy and Doug Cordova of Washington D.C. and Joseph and Cathy Eckert of Colorado Springs; Her seven grandchildren are Katie Cordova, Samantha Cordova, Abigail Cordova, Ricky Eckert, Amy Eckert, Julia Eckert and Ann Eckert; Kathryn's two surviving sisters, living in Denver are Sharlene and Dorothy. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Immediately following the church services, Kathryn will be interned, and then forever be with her husband, at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
