Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday September 13, 2009

William " Bill " David Albright, husband, father, grandfather, and great - grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2009. Bill lived a full and good life. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Isabel; his loving and honored son, David and his wife Kathy; granddaughters, Lisa Albright and her husband Thomas and Katrina Albright, and one great - granddaughter, Roxanne Albright. Bill Albright was a strong man. In an Easter address he delivered in 1984, he described the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus our Christ. When describing Jesus' teaching that we are to forgive others, Bill wrote, "There is steel beneath such compassion..." (April 19, 1984) Bill Albright understood steel as well as compassion. In the Second World War Bill was recruited into the Officers in Strategic Service (OSS). After training, he went to China to help lead guerilla warfare against the Japanese. Mr. Albright's uniform is now in a museum at Yunnan Airport in Southern China. There the people remember Americans who came and fought in what the Chinese call the Great War Against Fascism. Bill Albright was a teacher. Teaching in the military, as a mason, Sunday School classes in the Evangelical United Bretheren Church, and when the churches combined, in the United Methodist Church. Good teachers love to learn. Bill loved to read. He particularly enjoyed history, and no period of history fascinated him more than the Civil War. What a collection of books he gathered. Bill Albright enjoyed life. He loved baseball. When he was young he enjoyed hot dogs with mustard and a coke at ballgames, and collected baseball cards in his later years.
