Billy Joe Speegle Funeral Service for Billy Joe Speegle, 79, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Lovington, NM with Reverend Harry Pittam officiating. Burial will follow at the Lovington Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the home of Mark Saxton, Lovington Warehouse, 1500 S. Commercial. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Ruidoso, NM, Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Bill passed away September 3, 2009 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM. He was born April 29, 1930 in Hereford, Texas to Ernest & Rubye Speegle. He married Loleet Rogers, January 22, 1950 in Portales, New Mexico. She preceded him in death June 6, 1995. He married Ruth Ford McGuire, July 7, 1996 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He attended the First Christian Church in Ruidoso and was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Lovington. He was an avid golfer and pool player and a former President of the Lions Club of Ruidoso. An important calling in his life was teaching and coaching. He taught and coached in Carlsbad from 1952-1960, he taught Science and coached football, basketball and track for over 20 years in Lovington. Throughout the years he never met a stranger. In the 9th grade he started dating the love of his life Loleet Rogers, they were married for 45 years. After the death of Leet, he was blessed to marry his second love Ruth. He is survived by his wife Ruth of Ruidoso Downs, NM; son Steve & wife Cindy of Las Cruces, NM; son Stan & wife Marilyn of College Station, TX; daughter Suelyn Speegle of Ruidoso, NM daughter Sharon Norris & husband Dennis of El Paso, TX; two step-sons Reeves McGuire of Ruidoso, NM and Joe Bob McGuire & wife Dana of Durango, CO; step daughter Melanie McGuire of Carrollton, TX; six grandchildren Evan Speegle, Lara Speegle, Holly Smith, Shane Smith, Kathleen Norris and Drew Norris; three step-grandchildren Preston McGuire, DeMar Sciuto and Bailey McGuire. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Sherwood and Wink.
