Celine Davis Raff, 96, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, August 29, 2009. She is survived by her sister, Anne Davis Walker; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins; and many friends. Celine was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles D. Raff in 1984; and siblings, Isabelle, Helen, Concepcion, Mary, Lucy, Joe, Celso, George, Frank, Paul, and Charles. She was born on November 16, 1912 in Moriarty, NM to Joseph and Juanita Martinez Davis. Celine was a graduate of Loretto Academy in Santa Fe. She married Charles Raff in her early 20's. In the early 1940's, at a time when most women stayed at home, Celine started her own loan business, Sun Money, which she operated for many years. She was also very politically active in the Republican Party, including running for political office. A lead member in the Albuquerque segment of the Parliamentarians, she was still advising Albuquerquians on appropriate business etiquette until 2006. Celine spearheaded Brother Matthias's Corn Beef and Cabbage, St. Patrick's Day Fundraising Dinner. She was a major contributor in the building of the Sacred Heart bell tower, constructed from a steel beam from 9/11, and was also very generous to the Archdiocese. She was a loving sister, aunt, and cousin and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Many thanks to all who attended her services and to those who loved and cared for her over the years.
