Obituary for CHILDERS

John D. Childers, age 65, of Albuquerque, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 27, 2009. At the age of 18, John joined the US Air Force. After which, he became a professional land surveyor. He worked with the USDA Forest Service for 27 years, and then for the NM Dept. of Transportation until his death. John loved playing bluegrass music, car racing, softball, fishing, being the photographer for the Activities Dept. at Rio Rancho Care and Rehabilitation Center, and spending time with loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife Theresa; children, John Kevin and wife Amy, Pamela Childers, Jessica Gomez and husband Mark, Sherry Dreher and husband Mark, Sandy Boon and husband Fred; grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Paul, Elizabeth, Christopher (Skeeter), Melissa, Matthew, Amanda, Hayley, and Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Taylor, and Andrew; sisters, Mae Fern Boggs, June (Poochie) Bruce; brothers, Paul Vern Childers and Larry Gene Childers; and his faithful dog Buddy. Also surviving, is his ex-wife, Beverly Merrick. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 31, at 10:00 AM, at French Mortuary Westside Chapel with his brother-in-law Lester Merrick officiating.
