Obituary for POWERS

Richard A. Powers (RAP) passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Lovelace Medical Center on Monday, August 24, 2009. He was born in Springfield, Missouri on May 28, 1929 to Eugene and Verda Powers. Following graduation from the University of Illinois and service in the Air Force, he was recruited by Lytle Engineering in Albuquerque where he met his wife of 50 years, Doris Margaret Jay. They raised four children together and successfully owned and operated the Branding Iron Bar-B-Q for 28 years. Through the years they catered many events including the International Balloon Fiesta. Rich was a man of many talents and interests including avid outdoorsman, fiberglass builder, barbecue sauce inventor, Minute Man missile engineer, sign engineer, telephone pole inspector, cheese and cracker connoisseur, and pun expert. His wit and humor will be missed. He is survived by his wife Doris; daughter Lisa Powers and Gary Stidham of California; son Donald Powers and Nicoli of New Mexico and granddaughter Willow; daughter Susan and Basil Barna of Idaho, grandchildren Danielle, Ryan, and Nick; daughter Pam Powers of Georgia and grandson Cees; brother Eugene Powers Jr. of Florida; sister Betty Cox of Colorado. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 28, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at French, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Interment will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
