Obituary for TOELCKE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday July 08, 2009

Bernard Toelcke, 96, moved on the morning of July 4, 2009 to join his beloved wife, Ida, a day befitting one who loved and served his country actively in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War, and as a Navy reservist until 1973. A retired resident transplant to New Mexico in 1973, and an Albuquerque resident since 1981, Bernie died in his sleep at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living, South Ogden, Utah, where he moved just three months ago to be near his son, George, after illness severely reduced his mobility and ability to live in his home of 28 years. He always loved gardening and the high seas. In retirement he developed a passion for Native American jewelry. He and his wife, Ida, spent the best twenty years of their retirement buying, restoring, and selling Indian jewelry at the Albuquerque Flea Market, and relaxing in Hawaii each winter, a place dear to his heart since serving a tour of duty there during the Korean War. He and Ida's cremated remains will be scattered together in the Pacific Ocean. Funeral details are still pending. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.leavittsmortuary.com
