Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday July 02, 2009

Duane Robert (Bob) Dorcas, 85 a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Monday, June 29, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte; his children, Stuart Dorcas and wife, Lisa, Debra Haugen, Pat Mason and husband, Terry, Christie Wiltse and husband, Jay; his nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Harry and wife, Jo; his sister, Suzy Stapes and husband, Ron; and sisters-in-law Kay, Anna, and Janet. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Hattie; sister, Nancy; and brothers, Charlie, John and Howard. Mr. Dorcas served as a camouflage painter during World War II and continued in the painting business for 45 years ending his career retiring from University of New Mexico in 1989. He was a great bowler, enjoyed playing golf (a hole in one to his credit!) and he and Charlotte spent many seasons attending Lobo basketball games. They both loved horse racing - even having a race named in honor of his 80th birthday at the 2003 State Fair. Upon his retirement, Bob began volunteering his time each week delivering Meals on Wheels, doing that loyally for 18 years. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Kasemen Hospice for their kind and supportive care during his last days. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 10, 2009, 4:00 p.m., at French, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 2501 San Pedro NE. #116, Albuquerque, N.M. 87110.
