Obituary for TOMICH

Mary M. (nee Butkovich) Tomich, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009, just three days short of her 96th birthday. Mrs. Tomich was born in 1913 in Centerville, IA. As a young girl, she moved to Albuquerque with her parents, Valentin and Frances Butkovich, and her two sisters and brother. She attended and graduated from St. Mary School here in the city. For many years she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, but for more than 30 years, she has been a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Except for a few years living in Gallup and Santa Fe, she has been in Albuquerque for most of her life. Mary is a retired federal employee of the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the Internal Revenue Service. She also worked for the old Albuquerque Dukes baseball team office during season. Mary was very proud of her many years as a volunteer at St. Joseph's hospital in eye surgery hospitality. She is survived by her son, Dr. Charles E. Tomich of Carmel, IN and wife, Jacquelyn; two grandchildren, Steven C. Tomich, and wife, Julie, and Kristin T. Mart and husband, Brad; five great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2009, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, the family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m. The Mass of Catholic Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 29, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE.
