Obituary for YODER

James R. Yoder, a loving and beloved husband and father passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, following a courageous battle against cancer. Jim is survived by his wife, Dolly Yoder; his son, Stephen E. Yoder; step-daughters, Suzzette Higgins and husband, Jim, and Sandy DuBrock and husband, Greg; three grandchildren, Hayley, Alec and Stuart; his sister, Susie Yoder; and brothers, Mike Yoder and Richard Yoder and wife, Carolyn. Jim was a life long resident of Albuquerque and enjoyed an illustrious 43 year career at Sandia National Laboratories. Most recently, Jim led the Emergent Threats Organization in the Systems Assessment and Research Center. Prior, he led the Systems Technologies organization and was responsible for the development of sensor systems to acquire and analyze data from sources ranging from laser light to nuclear radiation. In 2003 Jim spent several months as a loaned executive helping establish the Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection organization in the then new Department of Homeland Security. In 1995 Jim was appointed acting Director of Sandia's Advanced Information Technologies Center. The appointment ultimately led to a two-year assignment as Senior Planning Officer for the Directorate of Science and Technology at the Central Intelligence Agency. Jim continued with the CIA serving on two Senior Advisory Panels. Jim was a member of the Albuquerque Council on Foreign Relations, the AIAA, and the IEEE. Jim has authored many formal reports and journal articles and papers presented at national and international conferences. Jim shared his passion for reading and travel with his family by spearheading and accompanying his family on numerous trips. Jim has flown airplanes and hung around airports for over thirty years. The Yoder family wishes to thank all the wonderful friends and the care provided by Lovelace Hospital during Jim's battle. In keeping with Jim's stated wishes, there will be a private/family service only.
