Obituary for BROWER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday May 16, 2009

Roger E. Brower. Beloved husband of Patricia Brower and father of Hugh Brower, son from a previous marriage, and beloved stepfather of Valerie Tomberlin and Thomas Lawrence and grandfather of Conna Meader- Kersh and Isaac Neese and finally, great-grandfather of Lyle Kersh died May 7 at age 79 of a long and painful battle with progressive neuropathy. Roger was born in Red Bank, NJ and as a child, attended the Episcopal Choir School of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC which instilled in him a life long love of classical music and theatre. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army and was stationed overseas during the Korean conflict. He studied art at Western Maryland State College and then returned to NYC where he was employed as Art Director for several advertising agencies on Madison Ave. before beginning his own successful advertising business. Roger was a member of the Holland Society, a group that could trace their ancestry to the original Dutch settlers in the 1600's. We had the honor of knowing Roger when he moved to Albuquerque because Patricia, his wife, wanted to live nearer to her daughter, Valerie, and her daughter's family. Roger and Patricia were a perfect fit. They moved to North Hills eight years ago and Roger, who had editorial experience, volunteered and took the position of editor of the Chronicle, the park's monthly newspaper. He was also on the Board of Directors. He always shared his many talents. Rogers' elegant taste shone through in all that he touched from his vocation to his family and stepfamily. He was a man of integrity, intelligence and exceptionally high standards. We will miss him terribly. Every act he performed was done with class, and kindness. A service for Rogers' family and friends will be held Saturday, May 16, at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral downtown Albuquerque. A reception will follow at the Brower home in North Hills Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be sent to the Columbia Neuropathy Research Center, 710 W.168th St., 10027 Columbia University Medical Center.
