Obituary for WORTHEN

Gordon S. "Smitty" Worthen, 75, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009. He was born September 30, 1933 in Price, UT, a son of Jasper and Rebba Smith Worthen. He married Sydney Dee Dorius, September 29, 1956 in Provo, UT. The marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. Gordon received his education in Provo, UT and graduated from Provo High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Gordon retired from Sandia Labs after 35 years of service, where he had worked in the underground nuclear testing program. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working with the youth coaching sports and scouting. Gordon was a member of the LDS Church. Survivors include his wife Sydney of 52 years; three sons, Steven and wife, Mary, Greg and wife, Cheri, and Kirk and wife, Juli; one daughter, Sabrina and husband, Mark Bludworth; ten grandchildren, Cecily (Dustin) Seidel, Kammi, Jenna, Jeff, and Elizabeth Bludworth, Melissa, Jeremy, Tyler, Shane, and Jordan Worthen; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Seidel; two brothers, Carl Worthen and Lynn (Loa Rae) Worthen; three sisters, Bonnie (Ernie) Messerly, Gwyn VanLeuven, and DeEtte (Tim) McKenna; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Guy and Ray Worthen. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, May 1, 2009, 10:30 a.m., at the Valencia LDS Ward Chapel, 160 James St. NW, Los Lunas, friends may visit one hour prior to the services.
