Obituary for SCOTT

Leonard Theodore. On Saturday, April 25, 2009, Leonard Theodore Scott, "Scotty" passed away. Scotty was baptized on August 13, 1958. Scotty had a lengthy and complicated medical history and died of heart and lung complications. Scotty was always surrounded by family and friends and passed away peacefully at his home in his wife's arms. Scotty was loved by everyone who knew him. He was always friendly, happy and loved to tell jokes. He was born on October 17, 1925 in Wichita Falls, Texas, to William Marcus and Effie Mae Scott. In 1943, at the age of 17, he volunteered and joined the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to a baby aircraft carrier the USS Marcus Island CVE77, where he proudly served in the South Pacific until March 1946. He held near and dear to his heart his service and his love for the CVE77 and its crew. In 1947, Scotty returned to Altus, Oklahoma where he met and married the light of his life, Maxine Little, "Mickey." Scotty and Mickey wed on September 25, 1947 and spent the next 61 years together in marital bliss. Scotty always said the best thing he ever did was to marry Mickey. He loved her with his whole heart. They had two children, Lynda and Jerry. Among Scotty's many accomplishments, he graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics, worked for Douglas Aircraft Company, and worked at Los Alamos Scientific Labs. He was a long time member and treasurer for the American Vacuum Society, New Mexico Chapter. In 1978, with Mickey by his side, he established Scotty's Sales, a Mobile Home and RV's sales company North of Santa Fe. Scotty also served as the president of the Manufacturing Housing Association of New Mexico. In 1991, they retired and moved to Albuquerque. Scotty was a member of the Netherwood Park Church of Christ in Albuquerque. Scotty is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mickey; his daughter Lynda (Tom) Chrisman of Santa Fe, his son Jerry (Teresa) Scott, of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his grandchildren, April (Chris) Augster, Lynn Preuit, Brad (Marla) Chrisman, Wendy (Ric) Orona and JoAnna (Matt) Kinsley. His great-grandchildren include: Tyler and Summer Augster, Price Preuit, Seth, Lauren, Rebekah, Tessa and Adam Chrisman, Lucus and Maurisa Orona, Baylee and Shelby Thayer. Scotty is also survived by his sister Nora Barris, and brother, Bill (Ann) Scott; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Effie Scott, brother, Larry Scott, sisters, Morine Lonis and Berniece Scott, and his granddaughter, Marlana Scott. Scotty requested Graveside Services only. His Service will be held Thursday April 30, 2009 from 1:00 until 1:30 in the Santa Fe National Cemetery where he will receive full Military Honors. A reception will be held immediately following the Services at Santa Fe Church of Christ at 1205 Galisteo Street, on the corner of Galisteo and Cordova. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in Scotty's name to Albuquerque Christian Children's home or the charity of your choice. Scotty was loved very much and will be sorely missed.
