PENELOPE ANN, With tender, loving hands of friends guiding, and comforting her, Penny went home to God and her family on March 27, 2009. Born March 20, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, Penny was the only daughter of Ada May Smith. Her mother and step father, Theodore F. Smith, moved to Albuquerque in 1941. As a child Penny loved fishing and camping with her family. Penny graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1954. She was active in the planning of the 40th and 50th class reunions and read faithfully, "The DAWG". She worked several years at Montgomery Wards and for 18 years was an Avon representative. Penny was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1941. She was an active member of the Evangelism and Social Ministry Committees from 1990-2006 where she was a persistent voice advocating for the rights of the hungry and poor. Penny was the first member of the "Ruth" woman's group, attended Bible study regularly, sharing her extensive knowledge of Bible stories. Penny sang in church choirs at St. Paul for 40 years. She helped plan the church's 100th birthday in 1991 & 115th birthday in 2006, wrote stories and provided extensive history of the church when requested. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church , 1100 Indian School Rd. N.E. on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 5:00PM. Internment will be private at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, friends request donations be made in her name to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1100 Indian School Rd. Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106.
