Obituary for ELLIS

Louise Wamel Heaston Ellis, age 89, formally of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Farmington. She was born July 26, 1919 to Rufus Henry Wamel and Mary Eliza Dunagan in Lordsburg, NM. Louise grew up on a family ranch in Animas, NM. She earned her secretarial administration degree and worked in Santa Fe for Gov. Thomas Mabry. This is where she met Joseph Gordon Heaston whom she married on December 6, 1947 in Roswell, NM. Their 32 years of married life were spent in Albuquerque working together managing and operating the Heaston automobile dealerships. Louise did volunteer work for the NM March of Dimes, Presbyterian Hospital, and was on the board of directors for the Chaparal Home for Girls. She was a member of the Central Methodist Church. Louise loved to entertain and hosted many gatherings for her friends. After the passing of Joe, Louise worked for Sunwest Bank and retired in the late 1980's. She then married Horace Ellis and had one year of happiness until his untimely passing. Louise was a loving Aunt who helped out family members and always had a welcome mat at her home in the Old Town area of Albuquerque. She moved to Farmington in l999 to be closer to her nephew and niece. She lived at the Gingerich Home with a loving staff who took such excellent care of her. On behalf of Louise's immediate family, we would like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Aden Gingerich and staff for all the love and care they provided for Lou. Louise was preceded in death by her parents and brother Rufus Henry (Buddy) Wamel and husbands Joseph G. Heaston and Horace Ellis. She is survived by her sister-in-law Rita Wamel; nephews Van Martin (Skip) Wamel, Steven Wamel (Teresa);niece Susan Pierce (Donald). Great nephews Van Wamel (Susan), Martin Pierce (Annaleah); Great nieces Katy Wamel Petermeier (Alex), Meleah Pierce Burlin (Jacob) along with two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 13th, 10:00 am, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin funeral home, 103 E. Ute St. As per Louise's request cremation has taken place and her remains will be placed next to Joe Heaston's grave at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
