George Romero, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, died Monday, March 30, 2009. He is survived by his four children, Ron Romero and wife, Evelyn of Hawthorne, CA, Eloy Romero and wife, Jane of Espanola, NM, David Romero and wife, JoAnn of Espanola, NM, and Cathy Naranjo of Albuquerque, NM; eight grandchildren, Ronnie S. Romero and wife, Gina, Paul Romero and wife, Gina, Juan Romero, Carlos Romero, David Romero, Carmella Archuleta and husband, Tomas, Mario Naranjo, and Andres Naranjo and wife, Jessica; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, Rosa Romero of California and Eva Sanchez and Mela Pacheco and husband, Arturo, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Sam Lechuga and wife, Lute of Belen, NM, Jimmy Lechuga of Albuquerque; cousins, Ursula Cid, Lita Lucero, and other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally, on July 9, 2006; his parents, Juan and Rosa Sedillo Romero; sister, Benina Lechuga; and brothers, Rosendo Romero and Antonio Romero. He was born on February 20, 1916 in Manzano, NM. George proudly served in the United States Army during WWII, spending most of his time in the South Pacific. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved camping with his family. George also loved to watch the rodeo. He always had his vegetable garden and flowers and dearly loved being outside with his plants. He was a very devoted family man. George was a loving father, grandfather and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a devoted Catholic and was a long time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited on Friday, April 3, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona SE. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Ronnie S. Romero, Paul Romero, Juan Romero, Carlos Romero, David Romero, Tomas and Carmella Archuleta, Mario Naranjo, and Andres and Jessica Naranjo.
