Gladys Conant Weaver - Loved by All Five years ago this past October 19th, Gladys Conant Weaver went to a better place. She was born March 10, 1910 to John and Gladys Conant near Conant in the northeastern New Mexico territory. Her New Mexico pioneer family of nine generations descended under the Marquez Spanish land grant. Her parents homesteaded Rayo, built the +WT ranch in northeastern Socorro County, and resided at Turn and Bosque in Valencia County. Her four younger brothers were, Johnny, Clifton, Pop and Ken. Gladys was Belen High's 1929 Valedictorian. At the University of New Mexico she was president of Phi Mu sorority. Gladys moved to Los Angeles and wed Tom Kuenster in 1934. She is particularly remembered for her great love, sharing, compassion, enthusiasm, spirituality, sociability, optimism, patriotism, inspiration, grace, and support. She headed numerous causes, concurrently donated to 16 charities, and received the first lifetime achievement award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Gladys rests at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California beside her daughter Sandy. She is greatly loved and missed by many friends and son Tommy Kuenster; grandchildren Teri Harmon, Frank Fredericks, Bob Fredericks and John Kenster; sisters-in-law Kat Conant of Belen; Wanda Conant; and Glen Rose Frielander, a Belen High graduate; eight great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces Janice Peter, Sis Conant and Maxine Conant, all of Belen; Mike Conant and Cookie Mathews of Tome; Connie Blackmer of Albuquerque; John Conant and Mickey Craig, from +WT ranch; Candy; and Cindy.
