Dr. Lester Hugh Roth, age 86, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on March 24, 2009. Lester was born to Hy and Sara Lee Roth on December 25, 1922 in Charleston, West Virginia, and resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania most of his life. He was a graduate of Charleston High School, West Virginia University and of both The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Dental Medicine and The Graduate School of Anesthesiology. He served in the US Navy, and later became a Professor at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. Lester was a respected Oral Surgeon who operated a three-office dental practice in Pittsburgh for over 40 years. In addition to being a research consultant for several pharmaceutical companies, he was an accomplished Scientific Lecturer, and a pioneer for in-home dental health care. Lester gave of himself by being involved in and providing leadership to many organizations. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, a 32 degree Master Mason, a distinguished member of Rotary International, and served as President of the Braddock, PA, Chamber of Commerce. He retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1999. Lester was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mae Chatelain Roth; one son, Hugh (Amy) Roth of Atlanta, and three daughters Leslee (Alan) Holzer of Pittsburgh, Christine (Phil) Custer and Michele (Miki) Roth of Albuquerque; six devoted granddaughters; nine loving great-granddaughters, and his devoted caregivers, Thupten Gyaltsen and Irene Clark.
