David E. Salas, Jr., 79 was born on December 27, 1929 and passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009. David was born to David E. and Lucy Salas, who preceded him in death. As a young man of 13 David served as a page to Senator Dennis Chavez in Washington, DC. He remained in Washington until he was 17 years old. When he retuned to Albuquerque he attended Saint Mary's High School graduating in 1948. Upon graduation he briefly attended UNM and then joined the Marines and served in the Korean War. When David returned to New Mexico he married Stella "Punky" Sanchez and had five sons. David retired from Sandia Labs in 1985 then returned as a contracted security guard. David's wife Stella preceded him in death in 1982, and his son Alan in 2005. David met and married his current loving wife, Lynda in 1991. David is survived by his wife, Lynda, his children David III and wife Valerie, Anthony "Tony" and wife Victoria, Daniel and wife Jennifer, and Donald and wife Lisa. His step-children Eddy and wife Penny, Jacalyn and husband Richard, Nanette and husband John, Marlynda and Danielle. He is also survived by his only sister, Loretta Rodarte and her husband Ray. David also leaves behind 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. David was an avid golfer who was currently helping to raise his loving grandson, Michael. Services are pending and will be annonced. Pallbearers will be his loving sons and his grandsons, Andrew and Gabriel.
