Brenda Melton, age 37, of Albuquerque, was invoved in a car accident on Wednesday, March 4, and died Thursday, March 5, 2009. Brenda loved children. She and Carmen Salas, her lifelong companion, were involved in helping to raise a child, Artie Chacon, until he reached legal age to care for himself. She lived life to its fullest. Brenda enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, camping, and golfing. She especially loved her dogs, Kitty and Scrappy. She entered people's lives like a breath of fresh air. Brenda is survived by her lifelong companion, Carmen Salas; father, David Melton and wife Annette; mother, Tillie Melton; brothers, David Melton and wife Christie, and Sean Melton and wife Malu; grandparents, Alfred and Augustina Saucedo and Muriel Melton; uncles, Fred and Tim Saucedo; nieces, Erika, Gabrielle, Marissa, and Jessica Melton; nephews, Sean Melton; grand-nephew, Antone; grand-niece, Yliana; special aunt, Sally Paniagua; step-brothers and sisters, Sean and Becky Garcia, Alex and Cassandra Muzquiz; Lisa and Clarissa Garcia; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandfather, Charles Melton. Brenda is also survived by extended family, father-in-law, Ramon Salas and Rita Rivera; brothers-in-law, Floyd Salas and Luis Torres, Chris Salas and wife Evelyn, Israel Salas and Dolores, Carlos Salas and Jennifer; sisters-in-law, Vivian Flores and husband Ralph, Merlin Quintanilla, Bernice Salas and Ruben. A rosary will be recited Tuesday, March 10, at 7:00 PM, at French Mortuary Westside Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 11, at 9:00 AM, at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW, with a reception to follow the funeral mass at French Mortuary Westside Chapel.
