Obituary for SANCHEZ

Meliton "Mel" P. Sanchez, age 69, a life-long resident of Tome, NM passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 with his wife and other family members at his side. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. Meliton played lead guitar for the 10:00 a.m. choir in Tome for over 30 years. He was also there at the church for whatever was needed of him. Mel used his musical gift of playing the guitar to ease family sorrows at rosaries and mass, along with playing at many other functions. He retired from the AT & SF Railroad in 1995, after 34 years of outstanding service. Mel worked in Barstow, CA and Albuquerque, NM, then retiring out of Topeka, KA. His love for music carried over into his retirement opening Mel's Music Enterprise in 1991. He saw a need in and around the Belen and Los Lunas area for a music store that catered to the area musicians. He was preceded in death by his father, Florenio "Lolo" R. Sanchez; son, Milton Lee Sanchez; sister, Natividad Gurule; brother, Frank Sanchez; and grandmother, Emilia Marquez. Meliton is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Eva; three loving daughters, Kat RunningWolf, Viola Arbuckle and husband, Guy and Angela Norman and husband, Mark; loving mother, Esquipula Sanchez; five loving grandchildren, Lawrence Moya-Placencia, Joseph RunningWolf, Erica Hammerick, Brittane and Lauran Arbuckle; five great-grandchildren; one loving brother, Ray Sanchez and wife, Darlene; and one very special nephew, Ramon Sanchez. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. All Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Tome beginning with a viewing on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ramon Sanchez, Michael Gurule, Lawrence Moya-Placencia, Joseph RunningWolf, Tom Abeyta and Nolbert Romero. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Abeyta, Karl Berni and Ronnie Sanchez.
