Obituary for GREIG

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 08, 2009

Cathy Our much loved Cathy Greig passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. In her last few months, she showed all of us the same grace and humor that she had displayed her entire life. Cathy will be remembered by the hundreds of students and parents whose lives she touched in her many years of teaching at Placitas Elementary School, and Santo Domingo Elementary, among others. She was an extraordinarily gifted teacher. Cathy was born Cathy Louise Ballentine on September 26, 1944 to Clara and Hugh Ballentine in New York City. Her parents and her brother, Hugh preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved husband Jim of Bernalillo; her nephew Keith Ballentine; and many close cousins. After retiring from teaching, Cathy devoted much of her time to rescuing homeless cats and volunteering for ACAT-Albuquerque Cat Action Team and for High Desert Cat Rescue. Cathy's passing has left a huge hole in the lives of a group of women friends that she had had for over 30 years. She was always playful and wise, and her gifts to her time on earth were without measure. Cremation and a private celebration of her life have taken place, and a further celebration will follow later.
