Obituary for SANCHEZ

Modesto O. Sanchez, age 66, a resident of Peralta, NM peacefully joined our Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Sangre de Cristo Parish. Modesto was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9340. He was also a proud member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Modesto affectionately known as "Mo" played a big roll in establishing the Valencia-El Cerro, Volunteer Fire Department. He served as the Valencia-El Cerro, Fire Chief for five years. Modesto loved donating his free time helping the area youth, and was a little league coach for several years. He retired from the US West Telephone Company in 1996. Modesto worked his way up through the ranks finishing an outstanding 30 year career in management. He enjoyed his retirement occupying his time with the things that were dear to him. His family was number one in his life. Farming, gardening, and woodworking were just a few of his passions. Modesto was well known for his outstanding chile garden that he grew and maintained for many years. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores (Maes) Sanchez; two sons, Albert and Andrew Sanchez; parents, Nicanor and Asencion Sanchez y Sanchez; in-laws, Elias and Estella (Apodaca) Maez; and brother-in-law, Elias "Lejoe" Maez, Jr. Modesto is survived by his loving children, Camille Sanchez, Michael Sanchez and Diego Sanchez all of Peralta; seven grandchildren, Armando and Lindsy Martinez, Carlos, David, Nicolas, Elena and Eva Sanchez; brother, Elauterio Sanchez and wife, Sandra; and two sisters, Minerva Sanchez and Patsy Maez. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. All Services will be held at the Sangre de Cristo Parish, in Valencia, NM beginning with a viewing on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Hoi Tran presiding. Interment will follow at the Valencia Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Louis, Carlos and Jake Sanchez, Salomon Moya, Elias and Matthew Maez, Ray Lucero and Armando Martinez.
