Obituary for NAEGELE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday February 06, 2009

Claire Ann (Pat) Fulmer Naegele of Albuquerque, NM, died Saturday, January 31, 2009. Pat lived her 88 years as a feisty redhead - bringing love and laughter to those around her throughout her life. Pat was born in Amherst, OH to Ruby and Fred Fulmer. She graduated from Baldwin Wallace College where she served as president of her sorority (Gamma Sigma) and was elected Homecoming Queen. Pat eloped with her college sweetheart, William C. Naegele, when he was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA in 1942. Their first son, William was born in 1943, followed by their daughter, Maryanna (1946) (husband, Ron Price) and their son Daniel (1948). Pat ran Bill's paper, The Lodi Review, for a year when he returned to service at the beginning of the Korean War. Pat taught English in Avon Lake for several years, then in 1962, became an English teacher at Elyria High School where she became the Department Head. Pat was an outstanding and memorable teacher, great mentor and good friend to her students and colleagues. After Pat retired in 1978, she and Bill moved to Albuquerque, NM. There she enjoyed activities with family and many new found friends. Her loving husband, Bill died in 2001 and Pat remained in Albuquerque with her son, Bill. Bridge continued to be a major part of her activities; as were her daily crossword puzzles. Pat had extraordinary writing skills which she used through her letters to family and friends. Dogs and cats were always part of her family - Clancy being her favorite. Pat was a classy, bright and amazingly remarkable person every day of her life! There are so many friends who remember her with love, admiration and always a smile. Gary and Patty Harter, Gloria and Peter Collins, Craig and Jean Pavlus and her Bridge buddies brought her great joy and true friendship in Albuquerque. Her Elyria friends, especially Jean Bowen and Marge Terrell, continued with their communication through the years. Pat provided her children with unlimited love, a great sense of values, a role model of strength, courage and independence and a true sense of family. Her children will continue to use these precious gifts as they love and support her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Michael (Reshma) Johnson, parents of Raiyan and Kieran; Ryan (Marisa) Johnson, parents of Dylan; Steven Naegele, and Kevin Naegele. Join a celebration of Pat's life to be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 10219 Admiral Halsey NE in Albuquerque. Please honor Pat through special gifts and loving words to your own family and friends - she would truly approve!
