Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday February 06, 2009

Lynn Avery, 69, passed away January 28, 2009. Born December 15, 1939 in Plainwell, MI. He joined the Navy in 1959. Lynn was stationed in San Diego, CA, Atsugi Japan, Corpus Christi, TX, Lajes Azores and served in Vietnam. His last assignment was Dam Neck, VA where he was an instructor for anti submarine warfare. After retiring from the Navy, Lynn went on to open his own jewelry business, known as the "Turquoise Shaman". Several years later, Lynn found a new job doing government contract work as a GS-13, and he and his family were sent to Naples, Italy. After his government contract work was over, Lynn returned to Albuquerque and became a financial planner for IDS. Lynn was truly a "Jack of all trades". He was a gifted jeweler, carpenter, and created many wonderful stained glass pieces. He loved riding his motorcycle while in Europe and in New Mexico. He was especially proud of riding with the many veterans to the "Run to the Wall" to honor our Vietnam Veterans. Lynn was extremely fond of animals, a trait passed onto his children and grandchildren. Lynn is survived by his sister, his wife, two beautiful daughters and two terrific grandchildren. He was a good man, a loving father, and a great friend. He will be missed.
