Obituary for SANCHEZ

George Sanchez, 87, long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on January 30, 2009. He was born in Ocate, New Mexico, Mora County to Pedro O. Sanchez and Filomena Duran Sanchez. His father passed away when George was a youngster, and he went to work at an early age at the Diamond A. Ranch to help his mother and his younger siblings. After his employment at the ranch, he joined the United States Armed Forces. George received an honorable discharge after being stationed at Boise, Idaho and other places within the United States. He went on to work at a lumber mill in Wagon Mound, NM then was employed as a ranch hand for many years at his brothers-in-law and sisters ranch in Ocate. He worked for different construction companies in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. George made his home in Albuquerque and was a proud member of Post #13 where he made many friends. He met his life companion, Lou Gonzales and had a happy life with Lou and her family for 19 years. Although George did not have any children of his own, Lou's children adopted him as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Cristobal and wife Estella, Placida, Joe, Fabiola and husband Domingo and Gilbert, sister-in-law Maclovia. He is survived by his brother Manuel, of Albuquerque; sister-in-law Margaret of Santa Fe many nieces and nephews; Life companion Lou Gonzales and her family; Patricia Brennan and husband Robert, Joni Pastor and husband Doug, Ray Gonzales and wife Linda, Joe Gonzales and 20 grand and great-grandchildren. George enjoyed visiting by phone, watching sports on T.V., and his pet cats. He loved telling stories and reading comics. His sense of humor made us all laugh and will always be in our hearts. Family and friends may visit French Mortuary, Lomas location, on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with Rosary starting at 7:00. Funeral Service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., with interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
