Obituary for URBANE

John J. "Bud" Urbane, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1941, died Thursday, January 8, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen Urbane; children Mimi Urbane, Terri Keller and husband Mark, Mark Urbane and wife Michelle, Trish McCracken and husband Brett; grandchildren Lauren and Nick Keller, Gabriela, Johnny, Jillian, Graydon and Marah Urbane, Dustin and Cody McCracken. Bud graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1943. He served in both the US Navy in WWII and the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Urbane graduated from UNM with a Pharmacy Degree. Eventually, he owned and operated Cole Pharmacy for 37 years. Bud served on the Board of Pharmacy and volunteered time with UNM Pharmacy Interns. He played softball even into his 70's and also enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a lifetime member of the Elk's Club. Although he was very active, his greatest enjoyment came from attending his grandchildren's activities. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be Monday, January 19, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. A reception will follow. Interment will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Bud lived his life with a smile on his face, a drink in his hand and a joke for even a stranger.
