Martin Kasworm, Commander, United States Navy, Retired, 93, passed away January 09, 2009. He was born December 15, 1915 in Taylorsville, Utah, to Gustav and Anna Kasworm. Martin enlisted in U.S. Navy December 1933 after graduation from Granite High School. He was commissioned in the rank of Ensign in 1943. Martin served on board destroyers, submarine chasers, and auxiliary ships in various capacities including two assignments as Commanding Officer. He also served in shore assignments, fleet logistics, and port operations. Martin graduated in special courses, underwater ship-salvage and rescue, deep-sea diving, fleet logistics, atomic, biological, and chemical warfare defense. He was a veteran of World War II and Korean War. Martin married Herma Johnson on March 19, 1943 in Banning, California. He retired from Naval service in 1962 and moved to the San Francisco peninsula where he was employed by the County of San Mateo in the Office of the County Clerk-Recorder for 15 years, 8 years as Asst. County Recorder. Martin moved to St. George, Utah in 1976 and became active in community affairs serving on the Board of Trustees for the Bloomington Service Areas and Community Council and also as Chairman of the Architectural Committee for four years. He is survived by his brother, Fred Kasworm, in Rupert, Idaho, and 18 nieces and nephews. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Herma; six brothers; three sisters. Conforming with prior wishes stated by Martin, there will be no public viewing or funeral. Remains will be cremated and scattered at sea.
