Obituary for ASHMORE

Arthur (Art/Archie) R. Ashmore, age 72, of Albuquerque, NM dies peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Winchendon, MA on Wednesday, July 22, 1936, the son of Quinn C. and Eva (Rouleau) Ashmore. He was a 1954 graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon, MA and played football for the Blue Devils all four years of his attendance. He enlisted into the United States Air Force soon after his graduation from high school. He was stationed in Albuquerque, where he retired, and was a member of the 377th Security Police Armory and proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he completed his education and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1983. In the early, 1990s, he moved to Scottsdale, AZ, where he eventually retired from Salt River Security. In June 2008, he returned to Albuquerque to spend his final months with his eldest son and family. Art enjoyed football, golf, hunting, and fishing. His favorite fishing spot was Red River, NM. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. His class motto under his senior year portrait in the Murdock High School yearbook was, "Women are my specialty," but those who experienced his generosity and kindness would say, "People were his specialty." He leaves two sisters, Yvonne L. (Ashmore) Page and Carole A. (Ashmore) Morse, both of Winchendon, MA. From his marriage to Norina (Archuletta) Ashmore he leaves three children, Wayne R. Ashmore and wife, Paula (LaPointe) of Albuquerque, NM, Linda M. Ashmore and husband, Paul Avoles, of Santa Barbara, CA, Arthur R. (Randy) Ashmore of Scottsdale, AZ; grandsons, Ryan and Drew Avoles; granddaughters, Kayla and Tarah Ashmore; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 11:30 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM, with full military honors.
