Obituary for FISHER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday December 20, 2008

Mary Ann Fisher, 65, of Albuquerque passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Beth; sons, Mike and wife, Jamie, David and wife, Lee; two grandchildren, Caden and Avery, plus her many loving family and friends. Mary Ann was born February 20, 1943, in Estherville, IA, and grew up 20 miles south in the town of Spencer, IA. She graduated high school in Spencer where she was a national merit finalist. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1965 the same year she married her Jr. High sweetheart, Jim. The two migrated from the Midwest to Albuquerque, where they started a family. From den mother to Girl Scout leader to swim team parent, Mary Ann's focus was always on her family. As her children grew older, she became inspired by the natural beauty of the southwest and Albuquerque's vibrant arts community, and she sought an outlet for her creativity. She was a naturally gifted potter and became well known as an accomplished potter, with residencies at Weems and Yucca arts galleries in Albuquerque. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, gardener, and cook, she was also a highly successful real estate agent. She and her husband owned Jim Fisher and Associates Real Estate Agency, and she was honored as salesman of the year by the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors. Mary Ann had a great deal of gratitude for the fullness of her life. This led her to a lifetime of giving back to her community as a member of the American Association of University Women, Friends of the Albuquerque Public Library, and other charitable organizations. Whatever the pursuit, Mary Ann's dedication and infectious personality inspired her children to follow her openhearted example in their personal and professional lives. Her many friends are invited to share in a celebration of her life at a memorial service Monday, December 22, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of her love of books, a memorial donation can be made in her name to Friends For The Public Library, PO Box 26657, Albuquerque, NM 87125.
