Obituary for STEPHENS

Dr. Oscar "Wesley" Stephens III (Col. Ret.), 79, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 8, 2008. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Alice Stephens; children, Diana Lewis and husband, Michael, Gordon Stephens, and Sarah Stephens and husband, James Reynolds; stepchildren, Wendy Padilla and husband, Duane, Julie Ferguson and husband, John McRae, and Mindy Irvine and husband, Doug; grandchildren, Micah, Joshua and Barbara Joyce; brother, Alan Stephens and wife, Wendy; sister, Nancy Stephens; and several other extended family and friends. Dr. Stephens was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar II and Edythe Stephens. He graduated from Messick High School in Memphis, TN. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with his Bachelor's and Doctorate of Dentistry. Wesley joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and retired in 1982 as a Colonel. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Alice, a beloved father to his children, and a loving grandfather. He was a great poker player! He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He lived in New Mexico since 1973 and always wanted to move to NM because of the book, "The Cowboys." Friends and family may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, December 11, 2008, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment of cremated remains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
