Obituary for KINNEY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday November 30, 2008

Donald Bruce Kinney. A graduate of Highland High School, Don loved music, playing the guitar, fast cars, green chile, his family, and close friends who were so important to him. He owned several restaurants in Albuquerque, including La Esquina and Las Mananitas. When he and Margaret lived in Grand Cayman he was known as "da kite mon" because his Krazy Kites store was such a great success. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and sense of caring. He was a sensitive, loving man who touched the lives of many people. Mr. Kinney is survived by his loving wife and partner of 17 years, Margaret Ashley Kinney; daughters Leslie Kinney-Kerr and husband Victor Kerr, of Kansas City, MO, Holly Bricken and husband David Bricken of Houston, TX, and Christine Olsen of California. Don is also survived by sister Charlotte J. Kinney, and husband, Bruce Weydemeyer, of Santa Fe, and their daughter Sydney Weydemeyer; stepchildren Kristan Beatty of Shoreline, WA and Michael Beatty of Albuquerque; grandchildren Evan Beatty Padilla of Shoreline, WA, Matthew and Jocelyn Beatty of Belen; as well as his aunt and uncle, Don and Joan Kinney of Annapolis, MD, and numerous cousins and step-siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Allene Kinney of Albuquerque. Don was cremated and his family will hold a Memorial Service for him in Albuquerque in June, following the dedication of Civic Plaza to his father - a ceremony he so much wanted to attend.
