Edith Oliver Hammer, 82, a lifelong resident of New Mexico passed away Wedndesday, November 26, 2008 at her daughter's home in Soddy-Daisy, TN surrounded by her family. Edith was born January 30, 1926 in Mosquero, NM on the 2nd floor of the hotel to Clyde and Florence (McGuire) Oliver. Edith married Donald S. Hammer in Raton, NM on July 15, 1941 and had been married 65 years when Don passed away April 24, 2007. Edith liked and took a genuine interest in people and was a good friend to many. She was very proud to be a part of the McGuire family and cherished her cousins. Edith is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Dale Durnell of Cordell, Oklahoma and Sammy and Bill Kingston of Soddy-Daisy, TN; five grandchildren, Bryan Durnell, Matthew Kingston, Chestena Whittington, Gary Kingston and Andrew Kingston; six great-grandchildren; a special niece Tommie Jo Deaton and nephew Billy Hammer. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband and best friend, Don; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Tommy McCorkle. A Memorial Service will be held later in Albuquerque, New Mexico with interment in Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Home.
