Obituary for HUNT

Lou Ann Wilton Hunt, born December 15, 1926, survived both a stroke and cancer, but her death on Monday, November 10, 2008 at the age of 81, soon to be 82, came as a result of prolongation of illness. Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Service will follow in the spring of 2009, when her ashes will be dispersed in various places throughout the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Lou Ann was honored to be among The Top 10 graduates from the University of New Mexico in the spring of 1947. She held Life Membership in Sigma Alpha Iota, Intl. Music Fraternity, Majority Member of the Intl. Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and was affiliated with many organizations in education and the arts. In 1975, she received an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America award. Elementary Teacher? Lou Ann believed that any great structure first requires a very strong foundation. She has been presented a multitude of plaques for her dedication and service, among them: in 1988 from the Santa Fe Concert Association; and in 1994, a Certificate of Appreciation in Recognition of Outstanding Service to Music Educators in New Mexico. She gave 24 years to the Santa Fe Public Schools as Music Coordinator for the Elementary Grades, Administrator and devoted her life to teaching hundreds upon hundreds of students and was well known for developing student choirs who were invited to perform for organizations such as the Intl. Lawyer's Convention. On many occasions she participated in activities with the mid-high and first high school including European Tours. Lou Ann continued to live in Santa Fe after retirement in 1989 and later moved to Albuquerque in 2000. Study in many of the arts helped to develop a variety in life for her. She began dance performance at the age of four, and eight years later, was performing with a marching band during the World's Fair on Fire Island near San Francisco in the late 30s. Lou Ann was a Sunbowl Princess in El Paso, TX, an accomplished gardener, golfer, and music composer for piano and voice. She studied art and drawing with many renown artists as well as artists in the musical world. Her mother, Anna E. Keener (Wilton), Intl., recognized as an artist and educator. AKW was a member of the US Navy in WWI and preceded Lou Ann in death in 1982. Lou Ann's survivors include her daughter, Baxanne L. and her husband, James T. Doyle of Prescott, AZ; grandsons, Kelly Lowrance of Boulder, CO and Kory A. Lowrance and his wife, Heather of Lafayette, CO; her three great-grandchildren, Konnor, Jordan Rose and Natalie; Lou Ann's twin-sister, Betty Lou Pompeo and her husband, Ernest, formerly of Santa Fe have resided in Albuquerque since 2000; niece, Tsenre and husband, Mike Deveraux; great-nieces, Amber and Lauren Deveraux; a first cousin, Robert Frank Linville and his entire family members, some in the Houston, TX area and some in other areas of the USA.
