Florence W. Alter, 93, passed away November 10, 2008 in the Vista Care hospice unit of Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. Mrs. Alter was born February 26, 1915 in Rock Island, IL, and graduated from Rock Island High School. She moved to Rio Rancho, NM in 2004 from Sarasota, FL, and resided at Sandia Springs Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Mary Whitebook; her sisters Margaret and Charlotte and her brother Charles, all of Rock Island. Mrs. Alter's passing also was preceded by two husbands, Joe Alter of Davenport, IA, whom she married in 1935, and who passed in 1962; and the late Louis Gold of Rock Island whom she married in 1968. She is survived by two sons, Morry, of Charlotte, NC, and Milt of Rio Rancho, NM; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Alter was a member of The Tri City Jewish Center in Rock Island and of Temple Emanuel in Davenport, as well as an active supporter of Hadassah, B'nai Brith and Israel bond efforts. A Graveside Service was held November 14, 2008 at Temple Albert cemetery in Albuquerque. Rabbi Min Kantrowitz officiated. Mrs. Alter's family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.
